Blueberry Update June 13, 2013

• Posted on June 13th, 2013 •

Blueberries continue to blue!

See pictures below of Oregon-grown Duke blueberries! As predicted with a cooler forecast, blueberries continued coloring and sizing. Growers now prevent birds from eating ripening blueberries with safe bird deterring methods. Like modern day scarecrows, these bird deterrents scare birds away from fields so that they do not damage fruit. With these safe and sustainable practices, Oregon Berry does not harm birds in any way.  (See pictures below for details.) Next week’s weather forecasts predict warmer temperatures between 66-79° F (18.8-26° C). With blueberries still ahead of schedule, ETAs are expected by June 26th. Did you know? Blueberries are packed with vitamin C. One serving has 14 mg of vitamin C – almost 25% of your daily requirement. Vitamin C aids the formation of collagen and helps maintain healthy gums and capillaries.
